The world renowned ASBEE Kosher BBQ Contest & Festival continues a beloved Memphis tradition of bringing in master BBQ chefs for a fun, family friendly and community oriented event run by the various agencies and volunteers of Memphis. Hosted by Baron Hirsch Congregation.

2024 marks the 33rd time this contest has been held, and it will be hosted by Baron Hirsch Congregation. We look forward to a fun and enjoyable event for all.

  • Pickle eating contest while the results are being finalized
  • Finally, the coveted trophies and grand championship belt will be awarded!

EVENT LOGISTICS & PARKING

Nearly all activities will take place in the Baron Hirsch parking lot. As such, the limited available space on the synagogue campus will be reserved for handicap parking ONLY. We strongly recommend that BBQ attendees:

  • DO NOT pull into the parking lot from Yates without a handicap tag or park in the spaces allotted for Wesleyan Hills United Methodist Church (which will be holding services during the event).
  • Park instead on Yates or other nearby streets, such as Shady Grove Terrace, Ashley Square North, Sutton Place, Herald Square, etc. Here is a map of pedestrian shortcuts that cut through the neighborhood:
  • Arrange to be dropped off at the Winter Oak entrance.
  • Walk to the event from nearby homes.
  • Arrange to park in the driveway of friends/family who live nearby.

There will be a strong security presence at the event to ensure everyone can safely enjoy the day.

Dogs are not allowed at the BBQ.

We expect the weather will be hot, so plan accordingly: apply sunscreen, wear a hat, and stay hydrated. Attendees are encouraged to bring a water bottle; additional drinks will be available for purchase from the Cowsher Café, located inside the synagogue.
